Karina  10, and her sister Katie, 8, participate in the public candle making event Friday at the Heyward House.
The Bluffton Historical Preservation Society held a candle making workshop Friday at the Heyward House.
Children were able to make candles by dipping wicks with washers in hot liquid wax for 30 seconds at a time and then removing them, allowing the new candle wax to cool. They repeated the process numerous times until the candles were formed.
The workshops are part of a new summer program initiated this year by manager Katie Epps.
This society has invited multiple summer camp programs from around the area to join them at the Heyward House for three different workshops: Candle making, archaeology and scavenger hunts.
The society has also included a few public workshop days. The next public workshop, Archaeology at the Heyward House, will be held 11 a.m. to noon Thursday
