Take Me Out to the Ball Game

We don't have any major league baseball or pro football teams in our area.....unlike Wisconsin where we have the Brewers, the Cubbies, the White Sox, the Packers, and the Bears....all within and hour of where I grew up.  In my "new" (new meaning, we've been here almost four years now;) neck of the woods, it appears that people follow college teams more for football.....and for baseball...we have a Class A team, the Savannah Sand Gnats (affiliate of the NY Mets).

Last night we went to our first game, and had a blast!

The stadum was fabulous, and although it's been expanded and updated (like with GIANT ceiling fans, and safety netting, and lots of seats), the original stadium was built in 1941.  I was told that Mickie Mantle has even played there!

We even experienced baseball's best fine dining  of: nachos, pretzels and cheese,  and sodas...oh, and icecream too (and J had a pulled pork sandwich:)  I inadvertantly (ahem stragegically?) forgot to make dinner before our departure:)

The girls had a BLAST!  We met up with two our our homeschool family friends....and the areas behind us were empty, so they were able to run around and play.  And at the end, all the kids were invited down to the field to one by one say their first name in the mic for all to hear, and then run around the bases!  I wish I had a close up of my oldest in her flowery dress and sparkly vest, happily running around.  But for the girls, this was the absolute highlight of the game, even better than the icecream.

What was the score you ask?  I think we lost, 6-7.   Not quite sure; it wasn't all about the game for us, haha....but we had a great time!
