Art and Flowers

The girls snuck out of bed at 3am  to create and hang heart art all over the house (there's a lot more where this came from;)

these are the beautiful flowers I received from my wonderful hubby!  (unfortunately the Lindt chocolates didn't last long enough to make it to the photo session :D )

and this is the cool giant "piper" card that the girls were excited to receive in the mail...from Grandma and Grandpa (unfortunately Piper got excited too, and proceeded to chew up their Princess Elsa doll, from "Frozen" while they  were busy opening the envelope.....naughty puppy

Our 13 Year Wedding Anniversary, continued

we like to keep things simple...

We decided to pack (ahem, pick up subway subs;) and head down to the May River for an evening picnic.  The temps were perfect, the breezes were perfect, the atmosphere was perfect....the evening was perfect (well, except J wished we had taken the boat out instead, but can't win em' all;)

AND......in case the evening wasn't perfect enough.....my sweet 7 yr old Fairy Girl made me this gorgeous anniversary necklace.  I felt awful, because she worked so hard on it, to surprise me with it...handed it to me....and I was unprepared for the fact that she was going to need help tying it...and we had beads everywhere.  She cried...I cried...it wasn't pretty. :D  But all was not lost...we collected those beads and she recreated the perfect necklace for me...so dang sweet!

side note: and seriously, since I wear my hair tied back ALL THE TIME, I had NO idea it had gotten this light again!  Wooo hoooo, it's like I'm a kid again :D  Gotta love the sun making natural blondes MORE blonde;)  (and yes, I do wear a hat, ok a visor, almost all of the time!)

AND, incase my sweet necklace from Fairy Girl wasn't perfect enough, hubby came home with these gorgeous and perfect flowers...even included splashes of burnt orange...my fav!

life is good:)

I LOVE flowering bushes!

I never really thought a whole lot about them, until we first seriously visited the Carolinas in the spring....April to be exact...and at that time the Carolinas are just bursting with COLOR!  I've mentioned this before, but for me, the hardest part of Wisconsin winters was the lack of color...especially with so many cloudy days.  Our last winter there, 2010...I literally took my girls on color-seeking field trips, and took lots of photos, of color!  (and because I had the feeling that was going to be our last winter there, I wanted to do things with the girls, while they were old enough to maybe remember some of it:) Although sadly, Fairy Girl barely remembers WI anymore; and doesn't even remember our old house.  We moved down when she was four. But, regarding color and bushes (and maybe the beaches and warm breezes didn't hurt;)  when the job offer came down here, we JUMPED on it;)  Anyway, I HAVE A FLOWERING BUSH; and it seems like it flowers more than once a year, which I love!  And it recently came into full bloom:)

and this has nothing at all to do with my flowering bush (although I have a nice view of it from here;).....
but.... Book, covered porch, rain....ahhhhh

spring IS in the air!!!!

back in spring of 2010, we took our second trip to Florida.  This is when we were still living in WI, but we were ready, and I mean READY to move!  On the way back north to WI, we took a "slight" detour...to South Carolina (basically, two states out of the way;)....you see, J had been granted a phone interview at a company in some city (Beaufort;) that we had never heard of...I had this bright idea that we just go that direction, he call and change his phone interview to an in-person one!  Well, apparently, it must have worked;)  Anyhoooo, while J was in the interview, the girls and I had an opportunity to drive around Beaufort and get a feel for it.  The one thing that struck me was that there were flowering bushes; EVERYWHERE.....I have never seen so many flowering colorful bushes as I have in the Carolinas!  And I LOVED it!  I've had many posts from winter in Wisconsin, where I was literally seeking out color...I struggled with the lack of color in winter.  I would visit The Domes in Milwaukee (indoor botanical garden), candy shops, jelly belly factory....anywhere where I could find color!

Here's the post from our first-ever trip to Beaufort, SC:

Well, obviously my wish came true; and I now have color, almost year round....our grass stays mostly green, we have a lot of sunshine, and not all trees lose their leaves.  And today, I happened to notice that one of our bushes is in bloom!  I LOVE color!!!  Happy Happy Spring!

Photo: Spring is in the Air! Some days I think I left WI, just to find more color! ;)

Our Anniversary---12 Years!

We had a wonderful family day celebrating our 12 year Wedding Anniversary (boy, getting married in 2000 really makes the math VERY easy:)   We have a new favorite spot that is sort of our replacement for our beloved Gingerbread House and Basse's Pumpkin Farm...both down the road from us in Wisconsin....like I said, sort of a replacement...it at least has that country farm feel.  Well, it is a farm!  Anyway, it's a farm, with a shop and a wonderful atmospheric restaurant....and we had a wonderful and atmospheric brunch.

Following we took a trip across the river over to Tybee Island in Georgia to play some mini golf (or as I'm my hubby so "cutely" calls it "putt putt" golf...isn't that cute?  Ok, fine, I took a poll and realized "putt putt" is not just an Ohio term, Wisconsin seems to be in the minority calling it "mini" golf.  sigh

So, we found this terrific (ahem) "putt putt" 18 hole golf course!!!!  And it was 1/3 the cost of the miniature (sorry, it's so hard for me to choke out "putt putt," I feel like I'm three:D) golf courses on Hilton Head...but of course we  drove 45 minutes to get there:)  And we had a blast....all three holes of it, before we got drenched (the storm came on rather unexpectedly).  But we feel like we played a full round, and they gave us four passes to come back...so, it's sort of like, buy one get one free!!!!!  sort a, if you don't count 80 miles worth of gas just to play "putt putt" golf...there, now it sounded appropriate:)

So, being rained out called for ICECREAM next door!!

And then we walked along River Street Savannah.

And then we went home.

The end:)
