Oh, you shouldn't homeschool. What if they
don't have a prom? What if they never get a teacher that hates them?
What if they can't march with a band? What if they expect that learning
is always going to be interesting? What if they don't experience
rejection? What if they don't learn how to ride the bus? What if they
don't know how to do worksheets? What if they don't learn to deal with
bullies? What if they miss something?
Some people are afraid
of everything. And they feel better when you're afraid of everything,
too. The fear of home education often comes down to this: What if you do
it all wrong and it turns out badly? You won't have anyone else you can
pin it on because you took responsibility.
I guess that could
happen. But what if you do it mostly right, and it's all okay? And you
and your child have a stronger, happier, healthier relationship because
of it? What if there's nothing to be afraid of? What if there's more to
be excited and interested and delighted about than there is to be afraid
of? What if there's more opportunity and adventure and joy? What then?
